Dec 7 2018Little did Upinder and Gurbir know, one click on a blue heart on a random Friday would forever change their lives. What started simply as a match on Coffee Meets Bagel would lead to days of non-stop texting, unlimited butterflies, and the start of their love story.
The First date 🏀 🍨
Dec 12 2018Just two days after they matched, Gurbir asked Upinder to their first date - a Warriors & Raptors game (Upinder and Gurbir’s respective hometown teams). As Upinder had tickets to see Childish Gambino the same night as the game, she respectfully declined at first, but something in her gut told her she needed to go on this date. She sold her ticket and was all set to meet Gurbir outside Oracle Arena. They agreed the losing team’s hometown fan would buy the other ice cream after the game. Upinder can sadly and Gurbir can proudly confirm that Upinder treated Gurbir to a sundae at Fenton’s Creamery later that evening.
The One 🧡 💜
May 9 2019Over the next few months, they hung out and spent all their free time together. On May 9, 2019, Upinder picked Gurbir up from the airport, as he was flying back from Seattle. It was late and Upinder desperately needed a coffee, leading the two to a nearby 7-Eleven, the only thing open. At 7-Eleven, the world’s most romantic place, Upinder asked Gurbir to be her boyfriend, to which Gurbir responded with a chuckle and said he had been her boyfriend this whole time. And the rest was history - the two were inseparable, exploring all of California one date at a time.
The Pandemic 🦠 😷
Mar 13 2020In March 2020, Gurbir went on a quick trip to Brampton, planning to return to California just two weeks later. Little did they (alongside the rest of the world) know, these two weeks would quickly turn into ten months. With the border being closed and the world being in lockdown, their reunion on January 6, 2021 was possibly one of the happiest moments of their lives.

Oct 30 2021Over the years, the two of them fell in love and became more and more confident that they had found the one they wanted to spend the rest of their lives with. While their parents had met on FaceTime in September 2020, the border opening was a waiting game. After numerous delays, the border finally opened and the two of them were rokhed in an intimate ceremony in Gurbir’s backyard.
The Proposal 💍 🥂
Feb 19 2022Arguably (and there’s no bias here whatsoever) one of the best proposal stories. Upinder had a random one week break at school and had thought to surprise Gurbir and her family back in California. She booked her flights and told two of her closest friends. Unknown to Upinder, these friends knew of Gurbir’s plan to propose to Upinder and told Gurbir of Upinder’s “surprise” trip back home. The two of them spent weeks secretly planning their own surprises: Upinder - her surprise trip back home & Gurbir - a surprise proposal at Viansa Winery in Sonoma, CA. When Upinder arrived in California on February 18, 2022, Gurbir pretended to be truly shocked and surprised (and should be nominated for an Oscar for his performance). The next day, they both headed to Sonoma. It was a day as clear as ever and on the drive over, Upinder joked, “What a beautiful day to propose.” Three hours later, Gurbir got down on one knee and said, “Well you know how you said it was a beautiful day to propose today … Will you marry me?” She said yes, the two celebrated the day and their love with friends and family, and are now ready to tie the knot on December 25, 2022.
